Sotheby’s are the soul of discretion. The morning after the sale, all they would tell me was that as far as art lovers were concerned, the Scream purchaser was good news. Now we know it has been purchased by Leon Black, a tremendous art enthusiast with an impeccable collection that includes Raphael, van Gogh, Picasso and Chinese bronzes. Black sits on the boards of both the Metropolitan Museum and MOMA, so we can look forward to seeing The Scream exhibited from time to time. Good news indeed.
